Overview
This project started as onsite support for the development and test environments for a single software application, and has since expanded into support for a whole family of software applications covering over 40 individual machines.
Business Need
GCG's support involves installation of primarily IBM software applications, such as IBM HTTP Server, WebSphere Advanced Application Server and DB2 Database Server and Clients. The task involves installing the software, and integrating it on a limited number of server machines, while still mimicking a production environment. This involves finding and applying fix packs, configuration for the software for the specified environments, and the overall maintenance of the AIX servers, such as user IDs, permissions and file systems.
Based on GCG's performance on this project, our role has expanded into advising on hardware and software purchases for these environments; and evaluating and troubleshooting performance problems for servers in the development and test environments, as well as those in the production environments.
Solution
GCG is responsible for the following tasks: |
Installation of requested software |
Appropriate configuration of requested software for development and test environments |
Setup and coordination of file systems and user IDs for multiple development and test environments, each supporting multiple levels of users and access |
Maintenance of appropriate documentation so software applications can be successfully installed in production environments |
Application and maintenance of all appropriate security guidelines for each server |
Troubleshooting problems with application software and application code |
Assistance with any problems in any of the production software environments |
